Subject : GREAT WEB PAGE STACY
Dear Stacy,
I am so pleased to be able to find a lloyd cole fan page at last. My husband and i are big big lloyd fans and have been for about 17 yrs, and i am still only 32! We recently went to see Lloyd in concert at Sheffield, England and we were about 20 feet from the man himself.! but i was mega disappointed not to get his autograph. It was the most fantastic concert that i have ever been to ever!!!!!!!!!! I have most of the albums and Music in a Foreign Language is just brilliant, classic Lloyd Cole. Being a mature student and travelling on buses a lot, i find myself listening to Lloyd on my personal stereo every day, it gets me through, i must be getting old! I am amazed to find that not a lot of people remember or even know who Lloyd Cole is, they dont know what they are missing. It would be great to keep in touch with you. And what a great web page.
Michelle (England)

Can you tell that I'm excited? Music in a Foreign Language (my first Lloyd Cole purchase) was something of an impulse buy last summer, but I really love it. He's performing near me tomorrow and I'm going with a friend - as yet unconverted, so I hope a new fan will be born!
Thanks for a great site!

Hi Stacy
Wow what a fantastic website you have set up !! I can't believe I haven't come across it before !! My names Kelli, I'm 33 and live in Brisbane Australia ( although I am originally from the UK. I am a massive fan of Lloyds ( I went to see him play the other night here in Brisbane and he was amazing ). I guess why I am writing is to ask you if you have an "live" shows of Lloyds on CD, and if so weather you'd send me one or two ?? I am happy to cover your costs if you do, and anything I could do in return just ask. I basically own all of Lloyds studio Cds, Boxset ect....but I am trying to get hold of some really good Live shows. Anyway not sure if you can help or not, but I would be really grateful if you do, or know someone who does have live shows.
Thanks again for putting together such a great fan site
Love and Peace
Kelli

Subject : Help Norman Mailer
Dear Stacy,
You appear to be a truly dedicated Lloyd Cole fan. I'm writing from Adelaide, South Australia. How would you know about Adelaide? Andrew Thomas the astronaut comes from here. Mel Gibson's wife was from Adelaide and we have an ex New York Yankee (who played in the 1996 or 1997 championship team whose name escapes me even though I was talking about him two weeks ago) who lives here with his wife. I would like the lyrics to a a song that makes reference to Norman Mailer. It may be Perfect Skin. I remember hearing these lyrics many years ago before I discovered Norman Mailer who is a fascinating narrator despite a rather colourful past.
Hope you can help.
Regards Nick.

Subject : Lloyd Cole Australian tour
Hi Stacy
I just heard that Lloyd Cole is playing 12 dates in Australia and New Zealand in December. This is great news. As I missed out last time, I really hope to catch him this time. But somebody told me he doesn't play much of his old stuff these days. Is this true? Can I expect to hear any songs off 'Rattlesnakes', 'Easy Pieces' and 'Don't Get Weird On Me Babe' (my favourites). I must admit I haven't bought a new album of his since 'Bad Vibes', so maybe you could recommend a good place to start.
Hope to hear from you soon

liked your website and pics. Agree that Lloyd is a real talent. Went to see him playing in Brighton England last night. He was in great form, simple acoustic set, mainly new stuff including some very nice songs from the new album (Music in a foreign language?) He has a great song, New York Sunshine which he says he wrote in 96 but wants to wait before releasing it. Could be a big hit one day. he played some of the old stuff too, RU ready to be heartbroken, beautiful Forest Fire for an encore. The venue was a bit formal but the mood lightened with a bit or rapport between Lloyd and the audience. He said that he moved into middle age early and someone (me) said so how hold are you. Lloyd declined to answer saying you wouldn't ask Suzanne Vega that question. Anyway, I now want to go out and buy some of his later stuff and find out more of what I've been missing. would definitely go and see him again.
Cheers
Mike

Hello Stacy,
Just a quick E-mail to let you know that, yes there are still some Lloyd fans alive and well out there in the world. My wife and I went to see Lloyd last Friday at a very small venue (about 500 capacity) at a town near to us called South Shields which is in the North of the U.K. What can I tell you, he was brilliant! It was just him and a guitar and he did all the songs you would expect plus lots of great new material. He chatted a lot with the crowd and was extremely funny even dealing with good natured hecklers. This was the second time we had seen Lloyd, the last time was back in 1987 with the Commotions on their last tour. Seeing Lloyd again had a kind of special significance to my wife and I as the 1987 gig was our first "official" date! Anyway nice to know that somebody has a great Lloyd site for fans to visit (especially as I can't get on to Lloyd's official site for some reason!)keep up the good work, kind regards
Kevin.

He is quite a frenetic writer and I guess I got bored reading all his thoughts..lol Anywho, glad to see there are other Lloydaholics out there....Good choice of song on the page..looked so good when you're depressed, better even still in your current state of undress...

Two years ago, we have made the long journey to Paris to see Lloyd playing at the Elyse? Montmartre. And now we're listening to the fantastic new CD MUSIC IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. We are alive and we expect and hope to see Lloyd playing in Germany or Switzerland in Autumn. Many compliments for your site. One question: howe can i do to have the lyrics of the songs in MUSIC IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?

I just had to share this with someone who would understand. There are 3 and a half hours to go before the Lloyd Cole concert tonight and I am beyond thrilled because I have a ticket!!! Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but it really is! I have waited 17 years to see Lloyd Cole and finally tonight in 3 and a half I am going to be at one of his shows! I wasn't old enough to get into the bars when he first started touring and then when I was old enough, he never came to my home town. A few years ago I moved to Europe. The day I arrived he played in town but I didn't find out until the day after. He was here again last year but I was too poor to afford the $42 US ticket. Now he's back! And I have a ticket!!!! And I finally get to see him perform after waiting 17 years!!! WOW!!!!!
Great site.

Hi. I just ran into your personal LC page. I thought it was cool. I'm 21 years old and just getting to know the guy. I'm trying to find some of his songs off the file sharing services. I do an 80s show at my college station on Sunday Nights where I play The Cure, Violent Femmes, the Smiths, and many others. One night I played Lloyd Cole's "Perfect Skin" and I got a couple of responses and they asked me where I could find his stuff. I had no answer but the only cd I have is "Rattlesnakes". Someone recommended "Downtown". It was nice to e-mail you and after looking at some others letters, I thought you would probably want to read mine. So long!

What I found especially interesting about the story is that I check on people’s record collections when I meet them and then decide whether they are going to be my friends or not.It means a great deal to me so I understand your story completely ! Hi Stacy,
I just found out your website about lloyd cole and I found it very interesting. Actually, I am a great fan of Lloyd Cole and I like particularly the Rattlenecks album and the songs Mister malcontent and Jennifer she said.. I just bought this week etc. and the negatives and I found them not as punchy as the Rattlenecks but I was nicely surprised by the quality and the melody and the atmosphere it creates. However I was a bit disappointed because there are no songs words in the albums. Actually I am french and I am living in Hong Kong for more than one year and I did not take with me the rattlenecks album and I would like to find the songs words of Rattlenecks, the negatives and etc. so if you hear about a web site with these song words, if you can let me know, or if you have a soft copy of it, it would be very kind from you.
Anyway, thank you,
take care.
and keep updating your site and enjoying lloyd cole songs.

hi Stacey!
loved your webpage... i think the pic of your son Alex (in his cute green suit) and you are totally adorable!!! so i've had the Love Story cd for a while now... (it was playing over the sound system as i was looking at my local cd store and it was so good, i asked if i could buy it!), actually caught Lloyd a few years back at the Roxy theater (in Hollywood) and loved the show! ...my favorite song off that cd is _i didn't know you cared_ the reason i looked up your website is i needed to know the titles of all the songs from Love Story... i own _Don't get weird on me now_, but really didn't listen to it that much... after looking at your "favorite album" survey... i will give it another listening to! I want to hear _no blue skies_, as i have ended all my emails with _blue skies_ since '95... thanks for sharing your pictures and Lloyd with us... blue skies, tien
ps. my favorite artist is Steve Forbert (he only sells about 80-120 tickets these days...), but his fans love him and he is such a pleasant fellow and amazing singer/songWRITER!!!

Subject : A Fan!
Date : Sat, 06 Jul 2002 14:25:31 -0700
Stacy,
I was trying to relax, listening to Lloyd Cole, thinking about a certain woman that I'm drawn to, feeling like I'm falling in love with her. Nothing new to me... seems I've always felt this way; falling in love with every sweet angel who smiles in my direction. Problem is that I have a wife and three little boys that I love more, so I know I'll remain true to them. Point is...What else would I be listening to at a time like this!! Right? Heartache, depression, or joy? I don't have any idea which one I'm feeling right now, but I know it's one of them. I guess that's what I'm trying to figure out? So why am I telling you?...It's a Lloyd Cole thing! The real question is: Do I have these feelings becuase I've been listening to Lloyd Cole for most of my life? Or, do I listen to him because I've had these feelings for most of my life? Okay, enough exestentialism for now? (did I even spell that right?) :) So I start wondering why there aren't many people who even know about Llloyd Cole. I thought I would look on-line while I was already logged on, and came across your page.. COOL! Right now I'm listening to "Love Story" Every one of the songs on this CD is amazing. Im a huge Beatles fan, Husker Du (Bob Mould, Grant Hart solo stuff too) just a Music fan in generel, and I really feel that not even the Beatles ever put out an album as good as this one. Also I love Social Distortion, and knew Mike Ness "back in the day" seen them at least 20 times going back to '82 (in High School) I saw Lloyd only once, at The Palace, in Hollywood, about ten yrs ago. My favorite Lloyd Cole story is when I met this kind of unattractive girl at a bar, but she was cool, we talked for awhile and I really liked her. I told her that I had just seen Lloyd Cole at the Palce show I mentioned... I raved about him, and was expecting she wouldn't have a clue who he was..but she told me she was the worlds biggest fan and couldn't beleive that she met a guy who liked him- She left when her frinds told her it was time to leave, but she came back 5 minutes later to ask me out on a date. It was sweet and she became so beautiful to me from that momment on. Should have married her :) Have you ever heard his version of "Famous Blue Raincoat" (Leonard Cohen)? You can find it on the "Rare On the Air" CD. A compalation from a local artsy radio station out here, KCRW. You should hear it if you haven't. Probably find it on-line. Definetly worth it. Did you ever see one of my favorite late-night night movies, "Bad Influence" ? When Rob Low got got whats him name drunk and robbed a liquer store, as they took off in the car the backround music was "Downtown" very cool! So....You live on the east Coast I assume? I live in CA. Newport Beach area. I was back east last fall. Almost got blowed up!! Can you beleive it!!? I work for one of the major Wall St. firms, and was in town for some training. I was in tower 2 on the 61st floor when we saw it all unfold! So scary!! But I really have to get back there one day to see it, and re-walk (run) the route that I took back to my Hotel, which was up by Madison Square Garden. And speaking of Sports The Angels will win it all this yr. So forget about your Yankees or Red Sox!! Take care and right back if you like! I'd like to know that you got this.
Take care,
Greg

i will be brief.... I saw lloyd cole right when rattlesnakes came out. It was at George Washington University, in DC. I can tell you it was awesome. I had to talk a couple friends in going because they had never heard him. well any ways we all ate a few mushrooms. Lloyd came out with the commotions and a think sat on a bar type stool in dark for maybe minute. And i'm pretty sure he said (or someone said) he would start playing when everyone was silent. Anyway when he started with Perfect Skin i was in awe of him. It sound so crisp, clean, smooth or whatever it was excellent. I mean nobody moved for the entire concert. It was like they where playing for just me. I mean everyone kind swayed and bounced in their chairs, but kept quite to allow everyone to hear every note. I've seen alot of concerts in different venues, but this was the one. The respect that everyone showed Lloyd was great and he returned with the most extremely intense concert I've seen. The BoDeans are/were excellent - along with the Pretenders, New Order, Depeche Mode, Fine Young Cannibals, Cherry Poppin Daddies and others. Heck I saw Chuck Berry in 1979 at Pier 6 in Baltimore and at the end he started playing Johnny B Good and a couple of us got on stage and danced with him and he was OK with that, but still that Lloyd Cole concert beats them all hands down. I was reading on your site some things but i could tell if that is the type of concerts he does now, but I hope to see him again in person soon. I have some Live Lloyd Cole mp3s which are pretty good - i got using LimeWire, if you want i'll send them to you. Is Lloyd going to be in concert this summer?? Have you ever heard of Robert Gorden. He plays Rock-a-billy and his concerts are awesome as well, different type music but a very excellent show. ps Now if only i could get to see my one true love (other than my wife and kids) - Gwen Stefani - Nodoubt. oh yea i hope to see Save Ferris before i get old. heck i'm only 40ish, but when you read stuff on these web sites it seems that the kids are around 15 years old. . .

your site is great.......................................

Hi Stacy,
Yesterday I saw Lloyd Cole for the the first time (but not the last one : I will be attending his Brussels venue on Tue 05/14/02) ! Evethough it was pouring rain over Tourcoing, I guess it's one of the most exciting concerts I have ever attended ! While we were waiting for a more Rock'n'Roll show (as per his 'Loaded - Live in NYC' CD or an old 'Black Session' recorded for a French radio station where he covered "Rock'n'Roll" by The Velvet Underground), M. Cole surprised everybody and came on stage on his own with an accoustic guitar... And it was so brilliant ! He sang his best songs and also other's (see below for non-exhaustive set list). His music was so intense and his voice was like honey ! After a 2 hours show, when we went out 'Le Grand Mix' it was still raining but we didn't care anymore.... Non-exhaustive set list (in disorder) :
Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?
Butterfly
Unhappy Song
Fool you are
Trigger Happy
Forest Fire
Lost Week-End
I Didn't Know That You Cared
Like Lovers Do
Old Enough To Know Better
Happy For You
Brand New Friend
Another Lover
My Bag
Pale Blue Eyes - by The Velvet Underground
People They Know Good (???) - by Nick Cave
Chelsea Hotel - by Leonard Cohen
Boys Don't Cry (Intro) - by The Cure !!!!!!!!!!!
etc etc.
Hope this interests you...
Kind Regards,
Jean-François

Gee, I thought I was the only one to love LC for a long, long time. Years ago, on AOL, I subscribed to a LC group but I lost it with my AOL account. I am now back on the web, but people don't seem to appreciate LC. I have LOVED this guy's music since I was a college radio dj in the mid-80's. My recording collection of his is quite incomplete. The best-of cd is redundant. I no longer possess the X album, rattlesnakes, easy pieces, or mainstream. I have filled them in a bit with the odd mp3 here and there, but I so long for my old LP's. The cd's just don't sound the same (except for the rykodisc ones).
Just had to vent. Thanks for listening.

Hi, I met Lloyd Cole once in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have an autograph that I have had framed hanging in my room for years. One of those cherished memories. The concert was great too. He is a very nice person and one of those rare people who gives a fan some time to have a conversation instead of running off and hiding from everyone. It makes me feel more respectful toward someone who acts in that manner toward a stranger and is at complete ease as if you were his friend. It was a very nice moment in my life.
Sincerely,
Lauren.

I first heard Lloyd's music in about 1984, Rattlesnakes, I was hooked ever since. I love every song on all the CD's, there is not one that I don't like. There have been many times when things are happening in my life and there is a Lloyd Cole song to relate to. Just recently on the" Love Story" CD, track 9 ," happy for you", what a song , such true words . I could go on for hours!!!. Love the photos!! Looks like you both love the sea too. My wife ( Philomena ) and daughter ( Marianne, 8yrs) and I all love the sea , surfing, diving, fishing etc. etc. We have a wonderful coastal view from our balcony. My job is working on ships as a merchant seaman , so I see plenty of water and never tire of it. Thank you for your site , it really is great to see that others love Lloyd Cole as much as I do. It must have been so good to see him perform so personally and to speak to him. Where do you live is it in the US.?
Thanks again , love it !!
Glen .

Subject : Lloyd's European tour - Leeds, England, March 7th 2002

Hi Stacy
Firstly, congratulations on a great site. I only found it a couple of days ago when I was checking Lloyd's tour dates but I have visited it several times since. Well done. As you will be aware Lloyd is currently nearing the end of his European tour and is playing his last few dates in England. I must admit that although I was a big fan in the 80s when Lloyd was at his peak here in the UK I have not heard much of his newer stuff and didn't really know what he was doing, so I was pleasantly suprised to find out that he was touring the UK, let alone staying in the hotel where I work! Yes, that's right, I walked into the reception area on Wednesday to find Lloyd and three others checking into the hotel for the night prior to his concert in Leeds the following evening. He had played Liverpool the previous night and was in Manchester to guest on a local radio show that afternoon. They were in a bit of a hurry so that was the end of my experience for that day. The following morning Lloyd, his father who was their 'roadie' while in the UK, and Dan the soundman came down for breakfast and were much more relaxed. We chatted briefly and they left to travel to Leeds which is about 45 minutes away, to get ready for the evenings show. Lloyd was very pleasant and amusing but seems very focused on his music and the tour ahead. That night I travelled to Leeds and took my seat in eager anticipation. The support act was a young and very talented Irish singer called Colin Devlin who usually fronts his own band - The Devlins. We were then treated to probably the best 95 minutes of solo acoustic performance that I had ever seen. Lloyd was superb. He performed a mixture of old 80s 'Commotions' stuff and his later solo and 'Negatives' numbers and received rapturous applause long after his encore had ended. Great show Lloyd. His next date was Brighton on the south coast of England and then on to his final gig in London before flying back to The States. What a great night and what a great meeting with one of my 80s pop heroes. I hope that you enjoyed my little mail and keep up the good work on the site. Best regards
Robert.

Yo Stacy!
I'm at the office, the weekend is knocking at the door and it seems too much things to do, so my message is a little short. My friends and me saw Lloyd performing only with his acoustic guitars on his German tour in Cologne, February, 27. this year. He was in a wonderful mood this evening. Smiling and joking when he introduced his songs... He made a little break in the mid of his show due to tune his guitars. And after he has finished I find the courage to ask him for his signature. And so he did it on my ticket...yeah, great! If you're interessted in to see it mail back and I scann the ticket and send it to you...
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards
Dirk

...where I attended yesterday a stunning and marvelous Lloyd Cole concert. In a small place - the Bongo Bar - packed with people Lloyd played nearly 2 and a half hours alone while only exchanging his two acoustic guitars. Having not known all of the 33 (!) tunes he delivered, I wanted to ask you about a tune that goes something like this: "Didn't I promise to protect you...Didn't I promise to marry you...Didn't I...But today I'm Not So Sure...Today I'm Not So Sure..." Might be kind to tell me, if you whether it is an original or a cover version. By the way he played also Cohen's Chelsea Hotel & Famous Blue Raincoat...
A simply astonishing evening, regards,
Sascha

Hello Stacey
Just wanted to drop a quick line and let you know that I share your love of Lloyd. As a thirty-something as well, I grew up scouring alternative radio programs trying to hear a bit of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions in the 1980s. Since, I have tried to get my hands on all of Lloyd's solo stuff. My favorite is "Don't get weird on me babe". Along with Violator by Depeche Mode and Achtung Baby by U2, I consider it to be one of the best recordings of the 90s. Keep up the good work on your Lloyd page.
Cheers,

I met Lloyd in New York last Spring. I have loved Lloyd for years ten at least and saw he was playing. I bought tickets and was amazed to see how small the venue was. I sat on the stage and watched his set. he played a couple of songs I asked for "Baby" and "Butterfly". I forgot...it was an acoustic set. Anyway, after the set he hung around and drank some beers. I bought him one and we chatted abount a number of things...he lives about an hour from me...at any rate, he was an absolutely fab person. Later on, with the release of Plastic Wood and Etc. I emailed him and told him I would like to be the first on my block to have copies of both. We traded e,aols. I emailed payment and a couple of weeks later, I received a signed copy of ETC...."Tony, I hope you enjoy it". Again, I was thrilled. Thanx for the page...he is the best!

Hi Stacy
I'm new to Lloyd Cole but having seen your hot photos I think I could get to like him (g) Seriously I have been a huge Morrissey fan since the early 80's but I am starting to think that Lloyds lyrics could rival my heros. Keep up the good work on your site.

hello!
I’m your 9583 visitor
i also like…I mean, love lloyd cole. he’s the greates lyricist I’ve ever known. what makes him great to me is his suave, the elegance of his instrumentations, his ‘hip’ and, most of all, the stories in all of his songs …many of which I can relate the my tragedies with. like LC, i’m also into literature. as a matter of fact, i discovered Simone de Beavouir ( my favorite writer ) by ‘rattlesnakes’. i like some of Greta Garbo’s movies, the tragic ones. GG’s line : “i’m so happy, I’ll be punished” was in my head during some of my life’s happiest moments because I’ve always felt that some dark cloud hangs over me…you see, I’m not used to being happy. to know a songwriter who can appropriate GG in a song ( perfect skin ) is…? I don’t know but it makes me feel as if LC is akin to me. Many of LC’s lines can be appropriately quoted to my life’s past and present circumstances. thanks for his pictures on your site. i copied them into my hard-drive. my fave LC & the commotions album is 1984 - 1989. my favorite LC & the commotions song are… all of them, actually…but the songs with which I can really relate to are: lost weekend, brand new friend, from the hip, mr. malcontent, perfect blue. i’d like to tell you more but my access to the internet is always cut short by my supervisor’s snooping. hope to hear from you, too. Soon, I’ll tell you how I gradually came to like Lloyd so much.

Hello,
Well, I've taken it upon myself to e-mail another Lloyd Cole fan since it seems we're kind of few (at least around here) and far between. First, I'm from Tulsa (well, Broken Arrow - suburb of Tulsa), Oklahoma and have lived here almost all of my life. Lloyd Cole is a peculiar sort of musician. I discovered him when I was in my heavy quasi-metal/industrial/grunge stage in the early 90's. He wasn't anywhere near the type of music I was listening to at the time, but still he appealed to me. Fortunately those days are behind me (although admittedly I'm still embarrased by liking Cinderella and Whitesnake for about 10 seconds each). I then moved into a much more mellow mode. Anyway, back to Lloyd Cole. I've attempted to buy everything I can of his. I would love to get a copy of THE COLLECTION if it weren't for the fact it costs over $30.00 and it only includes two new songs. Hopefully I can get someone to get me a copy cheaper than that. I also picked up the import version of EASY PIECES used for $7.00. I heard it's out-of-print but, I may be mistaken. A short time ago I also bought all the posters I could find of Lloyd Cole at a record convention (only 4, but I was surprised to find any at all); they are as follows : DON'T GET WEIRD ON ME BABE (album shot), LLOYD COLE (b/w album cover), LLOYD COLE w/ a place to write in the venue and DON'T GET WEIRD ON ME BABE (facial shot). Well, I know this is getting a bit long. Before I go I would like to recommend some artists : STRETCH PRINCESS, JILL SOBULE. LIZ PHAIR, MARY LOU LORD, JONATHA BROOKE, EDDIE FROM OHIO and THE SMITHEREENS. Have a Happy New Year and I hope to hear back from you. If you have any questions just let me know.
Sincerely,
John

Hi, my name is Tiki and I am a 28 year old philosophy graduate student in Texas. I am currently working on a Six Degrees Of Seperation Game involving our idol Mr. Lloyd Cole. If you want a looksie, maybe I can send a demo. I got to meet him twice...once December 21st, 1991 and the other time December 17th, 1998. I think he hates Dallas. Cannot blame him on bit.

Hello Stacy!
I'm a HUGE lloyd Cole fan and have just found your page on the Net. Out of interest, I met Lloyd two weeks ago (Sunday 16th May) after a gig with the Negatives in Dublin. I had a chat with him and got my ticket signed. He told me that he hopes to release a new album with the Negatives in September of this year (in the UK anyway - it might be earlier in the States). Well, gotta go, if you get the urge to e-mail me back feel free to do so.
Bye,

Subject : Saw Lloyd last Fri. night
Date : Wed, 23 Dec 1998 19:00:16 -0500
Hi, Stacy -
I've been a Lloyd Cole fan for about 10 years now - saw him for the third time in Atlanta last Friday night, 12/18. I was downloading your page, it was taking a few seconds, so I decided to jump ahead to the e-mail. That's just to say that I haven't seen your page yet, but I thought I'd go ahead and give you an impression from last Friday night. I haven't kept up with him over the last couple of years, so I'll relate some things he said that you might already know. I just happened to see, earlier in the same week, that Lloyd Cole was going to be playing a 6:00 pm show at Smith's Olde Bar. This is a local club near Midtown, less than a mile from where I live. So I immediately called down and found that tickets were still available. This club holds about 200 -300 people, so I hustled on down and snagged two tickets for my wife and I. Don't know why he was playing so early. There was a later act schedule, and I'd guess that act was booked first and Lloyd and his band took the time they could get. During the show, Lloyd mentioned that the band showed up and were told that they were going on in an hour and a half. In fact, when I showed up at 10 'til 6 (meant to be there earlier, but the traffic was bad coming from work) there was a queue and we didn't get in until nearly 6:30. Let me tell you this right off - if you are a fan, you should have been here! Not only is this a small club, there are some tables but mostly the patrons gather in front of the stage. We initially sat in the first row of tables, about 20 feet from the stage, but then stood up and moved even closer when he began to play. Which brings me to the format. The show was advertised as Lloyd Cole and Jill Sobule. There was a 20 min. opening act of 2 guys - early 20's - from Tallahassee, FL who played about 4 songs. Said they were Lloyd Cole fans. Better be, right?? They were OK, rhythm and lead guitar, one was the vocalist. Short break when they finished. Then Jill Sobule came on. I didn't remember until she played it later, but she's the one who did the song, "I Kissed A Girl." That got some local air play about a year ago, but I didn't know anything else about her. She played 4 or 5 songs, then "the band" came out, Lloyd and all the rest. Jill S. sang a couple of more songs; Lloyd just played as a member of the band, though up front on the stage. Then the roles flipped, he became the singer and Jill became one of the two lead guitarists. Put on a good show, played most of the songs I wanted to hear. But in a one and a half hour show (his part) he couldn't do them all - didn't do "Perfect Skin", for instance. I'll have to think back on what songs he played, but I thought I'd just give you some notes from what he said to the audience. Seems the group is driving around to the venues in a big van - don't know how long or all the stops - that's the main reason I came on the web, to see what I could find out. Anyway, Lloyd made the comment that he didn't like the way it's usually done, that is make a CD then tour to promote it. So they just decided to go on tour without any new CD. Joked that they had been to Brazil and were now touring North America, so they can call it an "American" tour. Also joked, I think, that he is considering becoming an oldies act, because it's hard to write new songs. They played until almost nine, did 3 encores, then took off. That's all for now!

Hello Stacey,
If you are interested in a live Lloyd Cole recording I do have a cd that is a Lloyd Cole & the Commotions concert recorded in Paris in 1984. The cd is called "live at Le Palace" and contains 10 tracks. If you are interested let me know and I can make a CDR recording for a small fee. By the way Lloyd will be playing live in Toronto this November 25th and I hope I can make a good bootleg of this concert. I did see him perform live back in 1995 at the RPM club in Toronto when he was promoting his "Love Story" album. It was a great concert with a full band and with his old "Commotion" band mate Neil Clark on lead guitar. By the I was surprised to find out that Neil currently resides in a suburb near Toronto. Anyway do you know when the new Lloyd Cole CD will be released? I think it's a greatest hits collection, but I would rather have some new tracks. Anyway let me know if you are interested in the live cd.
Regards,
Ben

Such a fine web page you 2 have but I gotta tell ya...I called you a nasty name when I read about the time you met Lloyd Cole. So extremely jealous! I have been a Lloyd fan for so very long and seeing him (let alone MEETING HIM!) always seems to elude me. I live in the Philly area with my fiance Kim and he swung by the Painted Bride (a bar downtown) about 3 months ago and I missed him. I read about the concert he held that Friday on SUNDAY! I have yet to forgive myself! I'll catch him one day...especially now that I know that he gets as personal and close with his audience as he did with you guys. Anyway...you requested to know my faves, and the obvious answer is Rattlesnakes. But, I have to say that I can't get enough of his Love Story CD. And as far as songs go, I don't know...so much to choose from....Patience, R U Ready to Be..., Be There, No Blue Skies, ETC ETC ETC ETC!!!!!
(you mentioned the cure too.....another excellent call!)
Bye guys!

Hi Stacy,
I just discovered your page on Lloyd Cole as I was searching for info on his new compilation "The Collection." I've just read a review in Mojo magazine (Oct 98) and they mention the album and the new songs ("That Boy" and "Fool You Are"), but I can't find a track listing anywhere. Do you happen to know anything about this? I assume it's a UK only release, because Rykodisc (his US label) has no info on it. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks, and keep on spreading the Word of the Lloyd....

Hi there Stacy,
Just wanted to congratulate you on a great site and excellent Lloyd Cole page - there isn't enough information about the man on the net. I found your page while looking for his tour dates in the UK. I first saw Lloyd Cole live with the Commotions in Poole in '87. It was a unusually small venue and the gig was very intimate - and all the better for it ! I'll certainly be returning to your site in the future just to keep up with the latest on the man.
Best Wishes

P.S. Just how many swimming costumes do you own ? :)
P.P.S If you ever get tired of your Brian there's an English man who would be interested in auditioning to become your Jack :)

Dear Stacy and Brian
Hi! I am Paul from Queensland Australia. I have been a Lloyd Cole fan for ten years, and have all his material available here in our country. However after reading your page I realise there is much I don't have. So i'm hoping you would be so kind as to help. Here is a list of the stuff I do have. Don't get weird on me babe, Lloyd Cole .x., Rattlesnakes, Bad Vibes,Mainstream,Lovestory,1984to1989,Easypieces and A live concert I was lucky enough to record on cable T.V. Some of his lyrics fasinate me, and his music comes across as a man filled with emotion, and I feel he writes Alot of his songs from his personal experiences. I here stories of being in love being hurt, religion, alcahol drugs,I also dectected a sense of sadness in him when I saw the concert on cable. I would love to know more about his personal life If you have any info. Also what really does inspire him. I would also like to know how to get hold of any memorabilia, other CD's , casettes, video's especialy live stuff. He isn't very well known in Australia, which makes it hard to keep up with his happenings, so I would be so greatful to here from a fellow Lloyd fan with any of the above information. I am willing to send money to pay for any of his music I don't have. Well I now anxiously await A replie.
thanks
